The earliest occurance of the Oxman name I have found so far in Germany is Michael Oxman christened on 15 Apr 1563 at the Evangelisch church in Bopfingen, Jagstkreis, Wuerttemberg, Germany.

There is also the name Ochsmann which I believe is the literal translation of Oxman.

There is also other variations of the name Oxeman, Oexman(n) or Oexeman(n) which originate in Wesphalia in Germany. The earliest found so far is Johann Oxeman born about 1631 in Rehme, Westfalen, Germany. Supposedly, the name Oexmann dates back to 1648 when a family named Oex immigrated into the Westphalia area from France. They were Huegonnets escaping after the 30 years war. In 1648 the war ended with the Peace of Westphalia. Oex is an old saxon word for "high place".

There is also Oxmann which also occurs in Westphalia and has been changed to Oxman on occasions by people emigrating to the USA/Canada.

It is not known whether the Oxman(n) name is related to the Oex(e)man(n) name.

If you are an Oxman, contact me by e-mail and let me know who you are and some of your ancestry. I may be able to trace your ancestry further back from some of the information I have already gathered.
