There is an Entrance Examination, graduated according to age, but never falling below the following standard: Reading and Writing Easy Narrative, and Easy Sums in the first two rules of Arithmetic.

The Governors reserve the power of rejecting candidates whose moral character is considered unsatisfactory, and of expelling scholars for misconduct.

All pupils will be expected to attend the religious instruction of the School, unless specially exempted on a written application from a Parent or Guardian.

Scholarships.

1. Christ’s Hospital Scholarships.

Boys of this School , between 10 and 13 years of age, are permitted under the new scheme to compete for scholarships at Christ’s Hospital.

2. County Council Scholarships

a. Boys under fourteen years of age who have been not less than one year in the School may compete for Scholarships, giving free tuition at this School for three years.

c. Boys over 16 years of age who have reached the highest form compete for major Scholarships (each of the value of £60 per annum) tenable at the University or other place of Higher Education.

A Register of each boy’s Attendance, Conduct and Home-work is sent home once a week; a report of progress is also send at the end of the term.

Absence. - Pupils are liable to dismissal for irregularity of attendance or persistent unpunctuality. In all cases of sickness a medical certificate must be forwarded to the Head Master, or in cases of accidental absence an explanatory letter from the Parent or Guardian. A pupil absent for a fortnight without notice will be considered to have left the School.

Home Lessons.- Home-work is given daily throughout the School. The time a boy is expected to give to the preparation of a home lesson varies from half an hour to an hour, according to his position in the School. Whenever much more or less than the specified time is taken up, information should be given to the Head Master. In case of delicate boys, the Head Master will remit the whole or any part of the lessons which may be necessary.
